New Year’s Eve is observed annually on December 31, the final day of any given year on the Gregorian calendar. Most countries around the world follows this calendar. This makes New Year a global event. Other new years such as the Chinese new year or the Bengali new year are only celebrated by small number of people. Whichever new year it is, it brings with it not only a new day but also new hope. People often take up resolutions to make permanent changes in their lives for the better. They may start looking after themselves or start a hobby. And to welcome such a special day, people tend to celebrate with friends, family and loved ones. In modern societies, New Year’s Eve is often celebrated at social gatherings or a party. At the parties people dance, eat, consume alcoholic beverages, and watch or light fireworks to mark the incoming year.
