What to write in sympathy message when someone dies suddenly

Death is the most inevitable reality. It can be a challenging and an emotional topic to maneuver around when we lose someone we love, value, or know. Writing a sympathy card when someone Ioses a loved one suddenly, is more difficult than it seems.

We may not find the right words to speak our hearts on this sad times. I have mentioned some condolence messages below to get  you started pening down your feelings.

When Someone Dies By Suicide

It is very hard to accept when we lose someone by suicide. Whether it is a friend or sibling or spouse, the grieving person is baffled and shocked. So write your sympathy message in a way that you can address the pain and offer support.   

  • I cannot even begin to understand what you are going through at such a difficult time, this must be so hard.
  • My deepest sympathy for such an unexpected loss, please look after yourself!
  • I am here if you need a shoulder to lean on at such trying times.
  • This unexpected death is very shocking to everyone who knew [deceased's name]. I wish you didn't have to go through this sudden loss. You are always in my thoughts and prayers.
  • My deepest sympathy at the loss of your [brother/sister]. May you remember all the good times and safe keep your memories together fondly and forever.
  • This tragedy is so hard to believe and process. I’m so sorry.
  • This abrupt going away of such a beautiful soul has really shaken me to the core. I am truly heartbroken.
  • Gone too soon; my deepest sympathy goes out to you and the family.
  • This is very upsetting and sudden, never expected to lose [deceased's name] so soon! He/She/They filled everyone's life with joy everywhere.
  • Such an unexpected loss! It is very hard to accept. I will always remember the happiness and aspirations he/she/they brought into our lives.
  • This devastating and untimely demise has shocked us beyond words. May your memories with [deceased's name] give you strength and comfort.
  • [deceased's name]'s death has left me speechless and very troubled. This is a huge loss for everyone.

When Someone Dies Suddenly Or Unexpectedly

Losing someone unexpectedly by an accident or disease can be heart wrenching. Here are a few sample message that you can use in your sympathy card or reword these to create your own sympathy message. 

  • Praying for your peace at such a sudden loss. I am here to lend a shoulder should you need one, please don't hesitate.
  • What an amazing person [deceased's name] was! What an incredible loss! [Deceased's pronoun] sudden death is indeed shocking and very hard to accept. I hope you can find the strength to go on through this hard time. You have my full support.
  • I am terribly saddened the way [deceased's name] has left us for good. It has left a big hole in our hearts. May his soul rest in eternal peace. 
  • My heart is heavy and my eyes are brimmed with tears. [deceased's name] was a wonderful friend and an amazing sport. I hope his memories give you the strength to accept this heart breaking time.
  • Be kind and gentle with yourself and take your time. I hope you know that you have my full support and that I am sharing in your sadness as you remember your loved one.
  • My deepest condolences to you for your loss. Prayers for you during this extremely difficult time.
  • Thinking of you and sending my love at such a difficult time. There are no words for such a sad time; I’m so sorry for your loss.
  • As they say, those we love never truly leave us. I am deeply saddened by your grief and am sending you my love.
  • Words are falling short today. I want to you to know that my heart is filled with sorrow at the loss you and the family are facing.
  • I am shell-shocked at the news of [deceased's name]'s passing. What a terrible loss!
  • This irreplaceable loss will be very hard for everyone to accept. May God give you the perseverance to face such a sudden loss. My thoughts and prayers are always with you.
  • As I heard of this unexpected death this morning my heart went out to you and the family. Please remember I am just a call away.
  • I woke up and read the text about this tragic loss. I am sending my prayers and love to you [deceased's name] from so many miles away. He/She/They was/were an amazing soul and always radiated positive energy.
  • I don't have the words to comfort you at such a heartbreaking loss. Always here for you my friend.
  • The passing of [deceased's name] is very unexpected and upsetting. Please accept our heartfelt condolence in your time of sorrow.

Saying goodbye to a loved one is always difficult. It gets harder when the death is unexpected and sudden. Sympathy cards or messages cannot lessen the pain but these can certainly make the grieving person aware of the support system they have around them. However, everyone has different way to grieve and we should be respectful about that.
